Math is Hard

Algebra Suicide was a terrific Chicago band by the married couple Don Hedeker and Lydia Tomkiw. They used a drum machine, Don played excellent guitar and Lydia delivered her poetry over the top dead pan style. Their live shows always included a cool light show of slides projected over them as they played. Don and Lydia divorced several years ago but there music lives on. They created a very unique sound that has endured. Last week I found out the tragic news that Lydia has died. She was way too young that is for sure. And yes that is a picture of my Algebra Suicide pocket protector that I have worn many times. Click below to hear one of their greatest masterpieces.

Hi Brendan,
I was so glad to get your comment on my blog. Things were difficult with Lydia when she was here, as you know. And you know how I felt, so I don't need to belabor the point here. Still, I miss her so much (I miss the "real" Lydia, I mean -- the talented, ambitious, funny Lydia). I don't understand, but then I do, why she wanted to destroy her friendships. Maybe "wanted" isn't the right word -- I don't think, in her sober moments, that she wanted to. In her sober moments we had wonderful times.
Are you still in NYC?
xo, Sharon
